‘ISO 2861 — Vacuum Technology-Dimensions of clamped-type quick-release couplings (flanges)’ 

ISO blank flanges conform to the vacuum flange standards issued by the International Standards Organization (ISO). They share the same underlying principle as the QF (KF or NW) flange series in that two smooth-faced sexless flanges clamp together with a sealing device (elastomeric gasket) between them. Each ISO blank flange face has a counter-bore into which fits a metal Centering Ring with an elastomeric O-ring around its outer diameter. The centering ring has two roles: first to align the flanges; and second to prevent the O-ring being pushed in by the external atmospheric pressure when the joint is under vacuum. 

Quick-release elastomer-sealed couplings (often referred to as ‘quick-flanges’) are designed for fast, easy, and frequent connection and disconnection without the use of tools. Standard ISO quick-release couplings are commercially available for 10, 16, 20, 25, 32, 40, and 50mm, nominal tube bore diameters. They employ a hinged-clamp mechanism to compress an elastomer O-ring seal between a pair of mating flanges. O-ring compression is accomplished with a 15° tapered interface found between the clamp and mating stainless steel (couplings) flanges. The ISO quick-flange is a re-useable, fast make and break high vacuum mounting interface rated for high vacuum service to 1x10E-9 Torr. hinged-clamp ISO NW KF (quick) flanges.
